The Successful Manager Is: (a) Masculine, (b) Feminine, or (c) Androgynous? Teaching Students about Becoming Successful Business Managers

Canadian society values university education as evidenced by being ranked highest among Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) nations for the largest percentage of population (41%) aged 25-64 with college or university education (Statistics Canada, 2001b). Canadian woman have increasingly pursued university education, representing 56% of full time undergraduate and 48% of graduate program enrollment (Statistics Canada, 2000). Moreover, 55% of all undergraduate and 52% of master’s degrees are held by women (Statistics Canada, 2000). Women have diversified their educational pursuits by outnumbering male undergraduates in 24/39 faculties, or 61.54% (Statistics Canada, 2000). This trend for women to pursue diverse programs of study is especially evident in business programs as 54.39% of all business students in college and university programs are female (Statistics Canada, 2000).
